Labor Day Weekend

We didn't have any big plans for Labor Day weekend but it was supposed to be HOT in the desert so Daddy and I had a great idea to go to San Diego for the day on Saturday.  The idea was great, but the execution, not so great.  Though the forecast in San Diego was only 85 degrees, we didn't account for the out of the ordinary humidity, making the heat index well over 100.  Nevertheless we did what we could to make the most of it.

We started out by visiting the USS Midway aircraft carrier museum.  Daddy and I had been here on our very first visit to San Diego, 10 years ago, but this was your first visit.

We had planned on visiting some of the other sites in the area, including an international sand sculpting competition that was going on, but we were so hot and sweaty that we just weren't up for it.  Instead, I suggested we find a museum where we could hang out in the AC and cool off.  I found a few options and we settled on The New Children's Museum.  Parking was scarce and we had to park several blocks away and walk, all the while yearning for air conditioning.  And when we arrived....it was an open air museum.  Just our luck.

Nevertheless, you had fun.  Hot, sweaty, fun.

This ropes room was by far your favorite thing.  You spent so long here we finally had to coax you out with the promise of ice cream.

Of course, the search for ice cream did not come without its own road bumps, but we finally found some, well into our drive home.

After the way the day went, I was looking forward to a nice, relaxing Sunday.  But instead, we woke up in the morning to find several inches of water in the backyard and a broken sprinkler pipe shooting more water 8 feet in the air.  We got the water shut off and got the pipe capped and at that point didn't want to do ANYTHING for the rest of the day.

So when Monday rolled around we were just waiting to see what sorts of mishaps were in store for us.  We settled on visiting the Palm Springs Art Museum and that went relatively well, until it was time to search for a place to eat lunch on the way home and we had another big MISS, but at that point, we were mostly just ready for the weekend to be over with.

Despite lots of bumps in the road, it was still a good weekend and always good to have the extra long break and lots of family time.  I'll always take the road bumps as long as I get to take them with our wonderful little family.  xoxo
